Testimonials: Evan and Jason

The Thousand Islands region has been my summer home since the day I was born. After introducing
my husband to the river and him falling equally in love with the islands, we knew we had to get
married there. Finding Comfort Island was a dream come true, especially given how limited and
'cookie-cutter' many other venue options in the area can feel.

Hosting our wedding here was truly magical. Our guests were instantly wowed upon arrival at the
boathouse, greeted by music from the island’s integrated speaker system as they began to explore.
The natural beauty of the St. Lawrence, coupled with the perfectly restored Victorian estate, meant
we didn’t need a single decoration beyond flowers—the island and the architecture speak for
themselves.

The attention to detail provided by the venue was incredible. Dining on the wrap-around porch with
the venue’s own fine china, Waterford crystal, and silver made our reception feel like an intimate
Gilded Age gala. The layout perfectly encouraged exploration; from our ceremony on the water’s
edge at the peninsula to a live band in the side yard, our guests enjoyed ever-changing vantage
points of the river.

The home itself offered the perfect setting for our wedding party. The groom and his groomsmen
stretched out the expansive third-floor primary suite, while the bridesmaids and I got ready in a light-
filled, gorgeous blue Victorian bedroom. We captured our first look on the docks, took a sunset cruise
in one of the island's antique wooden boats, and found endless portraits locations across the
property.

We are so grateful to Stephen for opening his beautiful home to us. He has maintained a masterpiece
that served as the perfect backdrop for our wedding; the historic grandeur and river views created
an atmosphere that no typical ballroom or venue could ever match. Our guests are still saying it was
the most unique and best wedding they have ever attended. It was an elevated experience that truly
showcased the beauty of the Thousand Islands.

Comfort Island

Photography@garrettmaynrd

Comfort Island is a Gilded Age summer cottage built in 1883.

The Clark family from Chicago built the “summer
cottage” on two and a half acres and owned it until 2013.

After an extensive 8 year restoration, the estate is ready to host events that bring back the excitement and glamour of a bygone era.

Comfort Island is one of the over 1800 islands in an archipelago formed by the Great Lakes draining into the St. Lawrence River.

Testimonials: Blake and Patrick

Comfort Island was a truly magical setting for our August wedding. Stephen and his team were incredibly accommodating and thoughtful, working closely with us and our planners to bring our vision to life. We spend our summers in the 1000 Islands and love hosting dinner parties at our own island cottage, so we dreamed of a wedding that felt like an extension of that—relaxed, intimate, and elegant, as if we were welcoming everyone into our home. Comfort Island was the only venue in the area that could deliver on that feeling for our 120-person celebration.

The property has so many beautiful, distinct spaces that every part of the day felt like its own little vignette. We got ready in the grand historic bedrooms, did our first look on the bluff overlooking the river, and took a ride in Stephen’s wooden boats. Before getting dressed, our wedding party even snuck in swims at the beach, which set such a joyful, easygoing tone for the day. Our ceremony on the side lawn was breezy and cool on a hot summer afternoon, followed by an open-air dinner on the wraparound porch perched above the river. Later, we moved down to the lower lawn and gazebo for dessert and dancing, and ended the night with a tour boat pulling into the docks to whisk everyone away on a catered afterparty cruise down to Clayton.

There is truly nothing else like this location in the 1000 Islands. Comfort Island gave us a wedding day that felt deeply personal, timeless, and completely “us,” and we are so grateful to Stephen for opening his incredible home and creating a place where memories like this are possible.
